The Beautiful Project Goes to New York

Along with Infinite Vision Art, Jeff Bauer, and photographer Rosie Bodin, Pamela spent the first half of November with 60 children between the ages of 6 and 20 in Gaga camp, just west of the border with Sudan’s Darfur region, where three years of armed conflict have claimed the lives of over 200,000 people and displaced over 2.5 million more. In partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner on Refugees (UNHCR), Pamela and her team worked with the children to sketch, draw, and paint not only their deeply personal experiences with the war in Sudan, but also their hopes and dreams for themselves, and for the world. “What we really wanted to convey to the children”, explains Pamela, “was that they could learn to use art as a transformational force in their lives that their minds have the power to create something beautiful”.

Having returned to the U.S. with over 400 images created by the children, the Infinite Vision Art team displayed the Beautiful Project in New York. “Artexpo is the preeminent art exhibition of its kind”, says IVA team member Jeff Bauer, “It was the perfect vehicle to connect thousands of people with these children and their work in an incredibly energizing and inspiring environment.” In addition to the children’s drawings and paintings, the Beautiful Project display featured photographs, stories, and a short documentary film. All proceeds from the sale of images funded the expansion of the Beautiful Project to reach as many of Darfur’s child refugees as possible, and to continue to raise awareness in the U.S.
